A revolutionary new DVD that teaches you practical English using real conversations
Improve Your English: English in the Workplace combines the video advantages of DVDs with the educational benefits of fluent American English speakers in unscripted interviews. You will benefit from hearing real people--men and women from various regions and occupations--having spontaneous conversations about the workplace, their jobs, and careers. The DVD also has a transcript and workbook designed to refine your listening and speaking skills.
Includes one 120-minute DVD.
This book and DVD set is extremely useful for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it exposes readers to a variety of spoken English styles. The English speakers interviewed on the DVD have diverse accents that can be heard in all parts of the English speaking world. Moreover, the subject matter is highly relevant to students or businesspeople looking to live and/or work in an English speaking environment.
I would recommend that anyone using this book have at least an upper-intermediate understanding of English grammar. While the shorter interview excerpts may make sense to relatively lower level English speakers, a number of passages are lengthy and contain fairly difficult terminology. For any non-native English speaker looking to seriously improve their listening comprehension, I highly recommend this book.
I was astonished to see how different the written words of natural spoken slang are from what we normally read. This book is extremely insightful and helpful to anyone that might not know how to express themselves in a more natural tongue. The book exposes how English is actually spoken and does an excellent job of pointing out and defining phrases that everyday speakers are not even aware they use. This can be critical for someone that doesn't know the language to understand the meaning and inflection behind the conversation.
We all know that language spoken in everyday life can be quite different from the language taught in proper grammar texts. This book and DVD set is a wonderful tool to help people who are learning English to bridge that gap. This series demystifies the slang and idiomatic expressions people will come across in real life, and makes is much easier to understand the language actually encountered. Unscripted interviews are lively and entertaining. They are accompanied by verbatim text transcripts, and explanations of all the things that are said that could not be looked up in a traditional language/grammar text. This is a totally unique and innovative approach. Highly recommended!
