Mechanics of Materials

Customer Reviews:

Awful

By David Peterson - April 9, 2013

This is the worst piece-of-junk textbook I have ever laid eyes on. Not only is the binder-ready version of terrible physical quality (turning pages will surely rip several in the process as the holes are ironically not reinforced), but the quality of the text is itself abominable. The diagrams are cluttered, the descriptions are wordy, and important relations are not written out clearly while very unimportant ones are highlighted.

Chapter reviews are also terrible as they leave out key concepts. Many of the explanations are shoddy at best, and the book as a whole relies too much on numerical values instead of symbolic manipulation, so example problems become very unclear as to their direction.

The questions all try to be novel while testing 10 concepts at once, rather than having some questions test some concepts and others test others, and then having more that combine multiple concepts. Also, solutions are nonexistent so if you want to know what you did wrong,... read more

Excellent Book

By Gianfranco Pisani - March 23, 2013

Excellent Book For My Mechanics and Materials Class, it follows every problem in detail and explains it very clear and explicitly.

Good textbook

By Patrick Caudill - March 14, 2013

This book is pretty good about having worked out examples for you to follow. Sometime the text is a little difficult but for the most part it is great
