This is a must read. Marc Weissbluth is one of the foremost authorities on this matter and his insight was tremendously helpful to me as a first time mom. Often times when my little girl had been up for 2 hours and she started to cry I immediately thought she needed to be fed, when in fact she needed to take a nap. It's amazing what a good sleeper she is now. Ever since I read the book she has gotten just the right amount of sleep that she needs so that she is always cheerful in her wakeful periods. Highly recommended!
I am a working mother with a very demanding job. Thus, it was vital that I get my daughter into healthy sleep habits early so that our entire household would be healthy. This book was and is my lifesaver. When I was a new mother and was desperately looking for guidance on getting my daughter on a health sleep schedule, this book provided me with easy-to-follow steps that worked. My daughter has been sleeping through the night since about 7 months and takes a good nap everyday. As a result, she is always bright and attentive and her moments of fussiness and crankiness are few and far between. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Also, if you live in the Chicago area, I would also recommend Dr. Weissbluth as a pediatrician. He is excellent with babies and parents alike!
I recommend this book to all mothers who need help with their babies/toddlers because it changed my life. I consider myself an attachment parent, but couldn't continue it as strongly after my husband left for the summer with his job assignment. This book had many different options and was open-minded enough that I was able to begin to get my sleep and the baby got hers. I was back to the "happy mommy" she once knew before Daddy left. It made all the difference in the world when my second child came along. Now I have a 4&1/2 month old and a 26 month old baby and I get my nap when they nap almost every day. I can't say enough good about this book!
