Well written and easy to understand.

Philosophy can be a little daunting, and this textbook explained concepts extremely well with scenarios, key terms and chapter summaries.

Great for an introductory class

As someone who has spent nearly 30 years teaching philosophy I am always on the lookout for textbooks that have substance but are also accessible to the student without any previous background in philosophy. "Ethical Choices" by Richard Burnor and Yvonne Raley is one such book. Although not an in-depth study of ethical theory (nor does it claim to be), the book provides an easy-to-understand and generally accurate overview of moral relativism, egoism, utilitarianism, deontological ethics, natural law ethics, virtue ethics, the ethics of care, and religious ethics.

In addition, at the end of each chapter there are several brief case studies designed to allow the student to apply what he or she has learned in the chapter to practical issues. As a result, although "Ethical Choices" is primarily a text in theoretical rather than applied ethics, instructors who feel the need to stress application can use these studies as a way of accomplishing this goal.
