This short collection of essays on questions in the field of neuromuscular medicine really does address questions usually not discussed in larger textbooks. I would classify these discussions as upper level with regard to clinical sophistication; the sort of information one might learn in a fellowship. It is intended for neurologists primarily. There are numerous pearls in these pages! In general, this whole series (the What Do I Do Now? books) has proven to be excellent.
I am roughly half way through this book (kindle edition) and have found it to be very useful. As a practicing neurologist, I find that this book contains many pearls and helpful information. It is written in an easy to read, case based format followed by an excellent discussion of differential diagnosis, useful work-ups, and treatment options.
I would highly recommend this book to residents or fellows, or to practicing neurologists in need of a quick yet informative review.
First of all, this book has some merit. It has some interesting facts about various nerve and muscle diseases. It has a brief overview of some of the diseases, their diagnosis and some of the treatment modalities. There are case studies that I found interesting. Most of this information is readily available elsewhere, however, and most of it is only necessary for neurologists, since primary care providers generally refer patients with severe symptoms. Another thing I find annoying is the fact that the listing states the book is 200 pages, but it is not. This book is very small, and, although they numbered every page in the intro and index, the grand total is only 184 pages. There are only 174 pages of text(and these are small pages) when you omit the index and intro. I'm sure there are people who might find this to be a handy pocket reference. ER practitioners might benefit from this text. It's not for me, however.
