Clear and comprehensive
By NYClights4 - April 30, 2009This book is great: a lucid and entertaining account of the United Nations. It's impressive that Fasulo is able to explain the functionings of such a large (and some would argue convoluted) organization with such clarity. The text is spry, and it's clear that the author has had a lot of experience as an independent chronicler of the organization. The text covers the history of the United Nations as well as recent and relevant topics such as climate change and the election of Barack Obama. The numerous candid accounts from diplomats, observers, supporters, and critics alike make you really feel like you are an "insider." A very fresh and smart book.
Insider's UN
By croznik - November 11, 2010The book was very informative and a good introduction to the workings of the UN. It was a good buy for me because what I needed was an introduction to the UN. However, I found the author's writing overly stylistic and formal considering the intended audience. I was especially dismayed by her categoric refusal to use the first person and her slightly pedantic vocabulary while at the same time dozens of typos and mispellings were scattered throughout the book. I am very happy with my purchase, but I definitely won't be rushing to read any of her other books.
