Malcolm X from Darkness to Light
This book presents the differences between arguably the two most famous civil rights activists of the fifties and sixties, as well as showing the convergence between their ideas and ideals toward the end of thier respective lives. It is readable, succinct and thorough. I highly recommend this book, especially to anyone who will be teaching this period in history to middle or high school students.

Pitney-Howard's immaculately documented study comes closest to a balanced and accurate portrait of their relationship as leaders and seekers of justice on both the existential (personal) and universal (as world teachers) levels. The author's organization of the information he had was solid. Having to read this book as an over-worked college student, it was difficult to get through. I found the reversal of attitudes and roles between the two men intriguing. If you're a big civil rights buff or want to know more about these two figure heads, this is the book. If you're looking for something to assign to your honors level students... well, not so much :) (we read this book after Anne Moody's Coming of Age in Mississippi, the contrast is what ruined it for me I think.)
