Great Textbook

This history book is so well written that it can divert my 15 year old daughter's attention from tmblr, facebook and texting.

The best general history of Western Civilization

This is the best overview of Western Civilization I have ever read, and is far more detailed and insightful than competing histories, such as those by Kagan. I can't think of a better choice for those in AP History, college freshman-level history, or post-college who are searching for insight into and context for world events.

One con, however: The last chapter in this book. The last chapter, which is about Europe today, was clearly added by another author, and without editing. It's in a different style (and with a different citation format) and seems very tacked-on. It clearly needs more polish, and is a missed opportunity.
