Rate the book not the shipping!

This is a fine book for students who want a stiff course in algebra. The book is challenging and holds no punches in its level of difficulty. However, the student who takes the time to do the problems and read some of the examples will have the algebra that they need for pre-calculus, trigonometry, or calculus. Rational expressions, logarithms, difficult factoring problems, quadratic equations, conic sections, difference quotients, and radicals equations are all present in this book. It is the lack of mastery of these concepts that hold students back in their calculus classes. Blitzer will call your bluff if you are lacking and get you up to speed.

To the other reviewers: Stop rating the shipping of this book!!!! This is just foolish. Rate the book! I am so sick and tired of erroneous rating on amazon!

No corners cut

A lot of work went into the production of this book. It's physically well made, and very thoughtfully laid out. It's designed to teach algebra, and it seems that more thought has gone into achieving that goal than any other book on the subject I've read. One example being, after a concept it laid out for you, an example is given, and then a practice problem for you to solve, and, here's the great part.. The answer is thoroughly explained right below the problem. If there are multiple answers to the question, the key part of the question is repeated in the answer. I can't stand having to go to the back of the book for the answer. There's a Pre-Algebra chapter b4 Chapter 1, and you really should already be familiar with Pre-Algebra concepts before tackling this book, but, the Pre-Algebra chapter might be enough if you've had algebra before, or you're really intelligent with Math naturally.

Bought for one of my college classes. It's a math book on algebra. There were a few errors in the book. There were some answers to the practice questions that were wrong. This is frustrating when you are trying to learn algebra due to having to re-work a problem multiple times, while getting the same result only to have the book give the wrong answer. Used online resources to verify the problems that were answered incorrectly in the book. Over all it served it's purpose. Kept the book after class was finished as a reference.
