I had to get this book for a computer graphics:imaging class I'm taking at university of baltimore. The book was to be used as a reference book for us and not necessarily a textbook. I find it very easy to use. It is especially helpful when at home doing an assignment. There's no teacher at home to ask a question so just go to the index and bam you can find what you generally in two chapters (one maybe indrotucing the tool or function and another demonstrating it in a more complex piece). It's a good book overall.
I've purchased Adobe 3rd party books over the years and I'm not sure if this was the intention, but the Visual Quickstart Guide for CS5 appears to me as a complete overhaul. Beautifully laid out, easy to find stuff, and even the screen captures (which are a big part of the book) are extra large.
Just wonderful. I wonder if the other upcoming Visual Quickstart Guides are overhauls too?
This book seems great for beginners and the color throughout really helps. However, there is not a single sentence about using the slice tool, which is pretty unbelievable! When I looked at a For Dummies book, there is a whole section devoted to using this tool. I don't consider this tool "advanced" in any way, and now I suspect there are other key parts that have been left out of this book (I haven't read it thoroughly enough yet).
The reason I bought this is because the last QuickStart book I had was for Photoshop 5 and I decided it was time to live in the 2000s. I do think this book is great for those just getting into Photoshop, but it was probably not worth it for me to buy since I've used it for years, and it seems to cover only the very basics.
