The first work Chapman & Hall's series on engineering nondestructive evaluation, the major objective of this textbook is to provide an introduction to the physics, modelling and operation of electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation systems. The material is organized according to the type of partial differential equation governing the underlying physics of the process, allowing for a progressive approach to the material based on mathematical and physical considerations. Each section covers a brief history of the field, developing the underlying theory, practical applications, signal processing and a discussion of the corresponding "defect characterization" or inverse problem. Worked examples are included and each section has review questions, problems and suggestions for experimental studies. Industrial equipment design and applications are also covered and there are special sections on signal processing techniques and magnetic materials.
