This book presents a consolidated view and basic approach to signal processing for VoIP voice and fax solutions. It provides readers with complete coverage of the topic, from how things work in voice and fax modules, to signal processing aspects, implementation, and testing. Beginning with an overview of VoIP infrastructure, interfaces, and signals, the book systematically covers:
Voice compression
Packet loss concealment techniques
DTMF detection, generation, and rejection
Wideband voice modules operation
VoIP Voice-Network bit rate calculations
VoIP voice testing
Fax over IP and modem over IP
Country deviations of PSTN mapped to VoIP
VoIP on different processors and architectures
Generic VAD-CNG for waveform codecs
Echo cancellation
Caller ID features in VoIP
Packetization—RTP, RTCP, and jitter buffer
Clock sources for VoIP applications
Fax operation on PSTN, modulations, and fax messages
Fax over IP payload formats and bit rate calculations
Voice packets jitter with large data packets
VoIP voice quality
Over 100 questions and answers on voice and more than seventy questions and answers on fax are provided at the back of the book to reinforce the topics covered throughout the text. Additionally, several clarification, interpretation, and discussion sections are included in selected chapters to aide in readers' comprehension.
VoIP Voice and Fax Signal Processing is an indispensable resource for professional electrical engineers, voice and fax solution developers, product and deployment support teams, quality assurance and test engineers, and computer engineers. It also serves as a valuable textbook for graduate-level students in electrical engineering and computer engineering courses.
This book is a complete reference of VoIP for both starters and for experienced. It covers almost everything you might need to understand VoIP from Digital Signal to IP Packet. Execellent Reference !
I have seen many books on VoIP, which provide the protocol aspects of VOIP/FOIP but none of them really dive into the signal processing aspects of it. This book is really written very well for the various signal processing aspects of VOIP technology.
One thing I liked very much is all the different terminologies, used in the VOIP industry, are explained so well that when the fresher or even the experienced engineer reads it he/she understands what it really means. It also provides minute details of every block of the VOIP/FOIP system with practical approach including QOS issues and testing, while the theoretical details are provided where ever needed. Third thing I like about this book is that it provides a Q&A section, which is very rare to see in these types of books. This section fills up any unanswered questions that comes in the readers mind after reading the book/section, it also serves as a quick reference.
In my opinion this book will serve as a very... read more
This book provides detailed treatment of all aspect of VoIP technology from codec processing through network delivery. I found that this book works well both as a reference but also as a overview of technology. It covers a much broader range of topics than other books on the subject. For anyone working on VoIP technologies or interested in the area, this is a must read.
