Information Overload

This is a very well written resource; however, be prepared for considerable information overload. In grant writing, it pays to have as much information as possible, you do need to focus on the target audience and the purpose of your request for funding. Although geared for folks with less experience in grant seeking, it can be overwhelming to attempt to review all of the websites listed by the author or look up the materials in the library. Have an idea in mind of what you need to communicate before setting off into the wild Internet yonder and nail down the intent of your research prior to spending days in the reference sections. Outline and scope the specifics then go to these websites and books. You'll enjoy the work more than if you went page by page.

tells you exactly how it REALLY is, not a textbook

I am beginning a grant writing consultancy business and found this book enormously helpful. It is well documented, fabulously organized, touches on all the necessary points you will need to know about, and - most importantly to me - tells you like it is. Unlike some other books I read that seemed more like college textbooks, this book will really give you the information you need to operate in the real world writing real grants. The info is timely and accurate. It's a real must have desk reference for anyone involved in writing grants for nonprofits!

If you are totally new to looking for grants, Grant Writing for Dummies will save you a lot of time, effort, frustration, headaches, and expense. I have been dabbling in grant writing and knew that I was over my head. Any chapter of this well-thought-out book will be worth the book's cost to you.

I particularly liked the idea of becoming a grant reviewer, as a way to obtain a keener understanding of the decision-making process.

I was pleased to see that the book contains a complete example of a grant application narrative, which I found to be very helpful.

In addition, the author refers readers to lots of free resources (both online and off) that are sure to yield better opportunities.

I don't know how successful my future efforts will be, but I can at least be sure to be working on the right things in the right ways... read more
