Slightly Unbalanced, but overall okay
By T. Viswanathan "Tess" - February 28, 2011I ordered this book to get some new ideas for my biology and chemistry classes. After receiving it I found that most of the activities are geared toward the life sciences. The book is split into three units: physical science, life science, and earth science. Each unit has several sections about a particular subject (16 sections total for the book) with about 10-12 lessons per section.
Most of the activities are short and would make a good warm-up, or demonstration. Some of the activities are kind of silly (like cutting up paper to try to cut it to the size of an atom).
Overall this book is fairly useful for me since I teach two subjects, however, I can see how others wouldn't find this book as helpful.
Great for me - high school biology
By sockfinder - January 3, 2012I can probably use 30-40% of this book's content for high school biology class. It is a nice book; minimal work would be required to use the activities. Some of the activities are truly 5-10 minute items to do with your class. Some could take half the class to complete. It's all about adaptation, and I personally like the variety. For the price I paid, I think this is an absolute bargain. Most educational books give me one lousy activity for $50.
If you are a teacher for grades 5-7, you might consider the other book for the younger ages. This might be more pointed towards the higher ends.
