A fun, easy-to-implement collection of activities that give elementary and middle-school students a real understanding of key math concepts
Math is a difficult and abstract subject for many students, yet teachers need to make sure their students comprehend basic math concepts. This engaging activity book is a resource teachers can use to give students concrete understanding of the math behind the questions on most standardized tests, and includes information that will give students a firm grounding to work with more advanced math concepts.
Math Wise! is a key resource for teachers who want to teach their students the fundamentals that drive math problems.
Kids don't have to complete endless, boring worksheets to learn math! The activities in this book are fun, creative, and very effective at demonstrating all the math concepts from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Make bean sticks to learn about tens and hundreds. Make sugar cube buildings to practice geometry. Go on a chocolate chip hunt and graph the results. Go outside and use chalk to draw a giant number line, or take a power number walk! I highly recommend this book for teachers, homeschoolers, or parents who just want to prove to their kids that learning math can be fun.
Great usable, PRACTICAL math ideas! I used this book with my state adopted curriculum to take my lessons to the next level. By giving students concrete, hands-on, math manipulatives I saw deeper understanding from my students. A great asset to any teacher's library.
Absolutely LOVE using this book. It doesn't matter which curriculum you are using, THE IDEAS and activities in this book help BUILD on your students' understanding of math concepts. I used these activities and THEN had my students create videos explaining a math concept to their peers. They had to show different ways to solve a problem (paper/pencil; hands-on; real life examples). Believe it or not, THEY loved it, and began to see themselves as the mathematicians we want them to be. :-)Math Wise!
