As a member of the faculty, I have now used this book twice as a main text for a master's level class in higher education leadership and budgeting. My students have found it well-written and useful in many areas of higher education finance. It is easy to read and well-organized. The concepts are covered in some depth - my only complaint is that it could go into more depth in some areas. Overall high student satisfaction with this text.
This textbook is well-respected, well-written and very useful.
It covers an important segment of higher education administration that few are trained to address. Many neophyte recently appointed college administrators have stubbled -- and failed -- because they were pitifully ignorant about budgets and finanncial management.
No college president was ever fired because his/her college had poor academic standards. On the other hand, many have been fired because the college got into financial difficulties. This book has been assigned as part of a master's course in Organization and Administration. The book is accessible, accompanied by tables, and a quick read. Though it is difficult to understand budgeting without doing it, this book provides good overall insight into budgets and financial management in higher education.
In my opinion, it is also far less dry than other texts.
