This was a used hardcover copy, but it arrived in almost perfect condition. The book as usual was excellent, as all Christie books are. It is a five in one collection and well worth the price. the five stories are as follows:
1. murder on the Orient Express: a story where Poirot travels on the famous Orient Express (incidentally a train Christie herself took) and solves a most baffling crime where a man is found murdered, with nearly 12 stab wounds. No one on the train seems to be a suspect since each of their alibis are given by others, totally unconnected with them in any way. It is upto the genius of Poirot to solve this crime.
2. Thirteen at Dinner: Lady Edgeware approaches Poirot and asks him to get her husband to divorce her so she can marry again. otherwise, I will have to go around and kill him myself she says. Very soon, Lord Edgware is found dead, but Lady edgeware has a perfect alibi - she was at a dinner party. Poirot as usual applies his "little gray... read more
Love having these on hand between long novels. Its always there to pick up and enjoy when I don't want to invest a long period of time, but craving a good read.
Lord Edgware Dies: first published as Thirteen At Dinner in the U.S. in 1933
Stage actress, Jane Wilkinson, no longer wants to be married to her cruel husband, Lord Edgware. In fact, she has made it known publicaly that maybe she should take steps to kill him so she can marry again. Furthermore, she goes to Hercule Poirot to ask for his assistance. Naturally, M. Poirot cannot and will not accomodate her wishes but when shortly thereafter Lord Edgware is discovered murdered in his library all eyes look to Lady Edgware--except she has a rock solid alibi. Or does she?
This case was one of the most difficult for Hercule Poirot, and almost went unsolved except for an overheard passing remark in the street.one evening. Everyone it seems, has a motive for doing away with the despicable Lord Edgware and everyone has an alibi. Who did it? And how?
I really liked this particular story. Just when I thought I had solved the case for M. Poirot--an... read more
