A "must have" book if you are a high-voltage (> 100 kV) addict :-) !
By ANDREJS JANSONS "Andrejs" - August 6, 2011This book is invaluable not only to a professional engineer, but also if you are an amateur, who builds and runs high voltage generation devices, such as Van de Graaff generators and/or Marx generators. One of the valuable things, which is contained in this book, is the description of high voltage measurement (sure, if you want to generate high voltages, you have to have some means of measuring them !). The book contains a compilation of tables, which, given the gap size at which the discharge occurs between the two spherical electrodes of equal diameter, provides you with the estimate of the voltage at the moment of discharge. The tables contain the sphere sizes ranging from 6.25 cm to 2 m, the gap sizes from 5 mm to 2 m and give you the resulting breakdown voltages roughly from 17 kV to 2.6 MV. Having these tables, it is rather easy to estimate, for instance, the maximal output voltage of your Van de Graaff generator.
