Alfa Romeo saloon cars have always been noted for their sporting handling and decent performance, because they have always used the same suspension and running gear as the GTs and sports cars. Indeed, they often handle better because the saloon bodyshell is stiffer - less flexible than the coupe or Spider. The book's introduction describes Alfa's heritage as a builder of world-class sports and touring machines since 1910, and its first tentative entry into the mass market in the 1950s. The story continues with the famous models of the '50s and '60s, the Giulietta and Giulia, and - into the 1970s - the Alfetta, Alfa 6, Alfa 90 and the Alfasud, Alfa's most charismatic car.
