My particular interest in Me 323 (and other aircraft) is not the aircraft so much but in the foresight that created them and the amount and type of infrastructure that maintained them. The logistics of building and maintaining the Me323 is portrayed by Dabrowski in a pictorial manner that lets the reader wonder at the majesty of it all, from building to aircraft loss. Given that Dabrowski started virtually from scratch, since much of the development was secret, and the fact that eyewittness accounts needed much researching, the book is a tantalsing account of much that was good and bad in the German aircraft industry and the Luftwaffe in the period 1938 t0 1945. For better or worse the The Luftwaffe "Giants" in World War Two left me with a true sence of loss; of wasted effort and lives, as well as the best of what humans are capable of at any point in time. As a read I would give it 3 stars and as a history 5 stars so an average of 4 stars.

I didn't think I'd find this book anywhere, but I did on Amazon! It's joy to see all the wonderful photographs in this book..I have never seen so many great pictures..a word of warning..some of the pictures are not great, but this is due to no fault of the publishers..it's due to the fact these pictures are from the war and battlefront..all the same this is a priceless book for anyone fascinated by these mammoths of the skies. The feeling I got from reading about these planes was in essence they really were yet another ridiculous waste of resources..and lives. They became sitting ducks in Africa supporting Rommel's army..easy prey for Allied fighters even before the end of the war they had become obsolete. Modellers will love this book for details..
