Invaluable for Doing Your Own Repairs
By W. K Sick - July 28, 2004After purchasing this book I was able to repair both front and back brakes and put on a new rear tire. Doing my own work with the assistance of the step-by-step directions in this book helped me save many dollars in repair bills. When putting your machine back together, this book points out any little quirks that you might run into when you reverse the order of the steps you took in the tear-down. This is much better than other repair manuals that simply say- reverse the steps- or some such.
All fluid levels and tolerance are listed in easy-to-find tables. The book is divided up into sections that make it easy to find whatever area of repair or maintenance you are focusing on. The blown up diagrams clearly labeled and described in the text are a real plus.
A must have for the owner of this classic machine who is also a do-it-yourself type of person too.
Good guide, but with some flaws
By Steven Belzer - April 18, 2013I bought this guide to help me rebuild the motor in my 1980 GS450E. I have little experience in auto or bike mechanics, aside from routine maintenance. This guide was very helpful and easy to use, though fortunately I have an experienced mechanic helping me with this project or else I'd probably be having some serious difficulty right now.
First, the pros: The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow, and I was able to work my way through disassembly of the motor using this guide without much difficulty. There are also a lot of great tips for beginners in the opening chapter of the guide. As a reference, it's been extremely valuable; information is well organized and easy to access.
Cons: The quality of many of the pictures is poor, which makes them fairly useless in some cases- though most of the pictures are helpful. Additionally, there are some gaps in information, and some areas where instructions aren't entirely clear.

Decent manual
