\nreplacements for long-term weight maintenance and risk
\nfactor reduction in obese patients.
\nResearch Methods and Procedures: Prospective, random-
\nized, two-arm, parallel intervention for 12 weeks followed
\nby a prospective single-arm 4-year trial in a University
\nHospital clinic. One hundred patients, 18 years old and
\nwith a body mass index
\n25 and
\n40 kg/m2, were
\nprescribed a 1200 to 1500 kcal/d control diet (Group A) or
\nan isoenergetic diet, including two meal and snack replace-
\nments (vitamin- and mineral-fortified shakes, soups, and
\nbars) and one meal high in fruits and vegetables (Group B).
\nFollowing a 3 months of weight loss, all patients were
\nprescribed the same energy-restricted diet (1200 to 1500
\nkcal) with one meal and one snack replacement for an
\nadditional 4 years.
\nResults: All 100 patients were evaluated at 12 weeks. Mean
\npercentage weight loss was 1.5
\n0.4% and 7.8
\n0.5%
\n(mean
\nSEM) for Groups A and B, respectively. At 12
\nweeks systolic blood pressure, plasma triacylglycerol, glu-
\ncose, and insulin concentrations were significantly reduced
\nin Group B, whereas no changes occurred in Group A. After
\n4 years, 75% of the patients were evaluated. Total mean
\nweight loss was 3.2
\n0.8% for Group A and 8.4 0.8% (mean
\nSEM) for Group B. Both groups showed signifi-
\ncant improvement in blood glucose and insulin (p
\n0.001),
\nbut only Group B showed significant improvement in tri-
\nacylglycerol and systolic blood pressure compared to base-
\nline values (p
\n0.001).
\nDiscussion: Providing a structured meal plan via vitamin-
\nand mineral-fortified liquid meal replacements is a safe and
\neffective dietary strategy for obese patients. Long-term
\nmaintenance of weight loss with meal replacements can
\nimprove certain biomarkers of disease risk.\";s:5:\"thumb\";s:119:\"images/t/45/metabolic-and-weight-loss-effects-of-long-term-dietary-intervention-in-obese-patients-four-year-results.jpg\";s:6:\"thumb2\";s:120:\"images/t2/45/metabolic-and-weight-loss-effects-of-long-term-dietary-intervention-in-obese-patients-four-year-results.jpg\";s:9:\"permalink\";s:103:\"metabolic-and-weight-loss-effects-of-long-term-dietary-intervention-in-obese-patients-four-year-results\";s:5:\"pages\";s:1:\"4\";s:6:\"rating\";s:1:\"5\";s:5:\"voter\";s:1:\"1\";}i:6;O:8:\"stdClass\":13:{s:2:\"id\";s:6:\"110015\";s:6:\"status\";s:8:\"verified\";s:11:\"author_name\";s:6:\"justin\";s:9:\"author_id\";s:1:\"0\";s:14:\"author_website\";s:0:\"\";s:5:\"title\";s:95:\"Role of preoperative ultrasonography in the surgical management of patients with thyroid cancer\";s:11:\"description\";s:306:\"Cervical recurrence occurs in up to 30%of patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. \ndeprecating humor. Sixty-four female and 32 male college students participated in a two-
\npart study. In the first part, we examined the relationships among participant demographics,
\npersonality traits, and preferences for producing different types of humor. Men report using
\nmore other-deprecating humor than women do, and the use of other-deprecating humor
\ndecreases with age for both sexes. In the second part of the study, each participant listened
\nto tape recordings of opposite-sex people who were described as having different levels of
\nstatus, and who produced different types of humor; then participants rated each person’s
\nattractiveness as a potential short-term and long-term mate. Humor type and presenter
\nstatus had no effects on short-term attractiveness, but self-deprecating humor by high-status
\npresenters (but not low-status presenters) increased long-term attractiveness for both sexes.

Data published so far on this topic show that maternal and paternal ageing may affect offspring by different mechanisms. Delayed motherhood is characterized by increased probability of obstetric complications and/or fetal and perinatal problems which, inturn, may increase the risks of mortality and morbidity in newborns and later life. Furthermore, maternal ageing is distinguished by a decreased ratio of male to female infants and higher odds of conceiving a trisomic child and/or an individual suffering from mitochondrial DNA disorders. In contrast, delayed fatherhood is associated with higher risks of conceiving an individual suffering from new inheritable-mutation disorders.\";s:5:\"thumb\";s:64:\"images/t/1096/review-long-term-effects-of-delayed-parenthood.jpg\";s:6:\"thumb2\";s:65:\"images/t2/1096/review-long-term-effects-of-delayed-parenthood.jpg\";s:9:\"permalink\";s:46:\"review-long-term-effects-of-delayed-parenthood\";s:5:\"pages\";s:1:\"6\";s:6:\"rating\";s:1:\"0\";s:5:\"voter\";s:1:\"0\";}}', `cache_on` = '2015-02-28 12:28:02' WHERE `aff_id` = '434645'
