This is a very touching, heart-warming memoir of a young American doctor serving in Viet-Nam during the most turbulent years of this much-politicized and divisive war. It depicts the uplifting human stories so often neglected in the news and the political debates of the time, and highlights in a down-to-earth yet realistic manner the compassion and dedication of the young people who served over there. The photos of the indigent village children are priceless and their stories simply heart-rending. But among widespread death and tragedy were many shining moments of hope and kindness.
