The Book That Made America: How the Bible Formed Our Nation
The Book that Made America: How the Bible Formed Our Nation comprehensively documents, with joy, Americas deep roots in the Bible of the Christian faith. From our first civil compacts and the New England Primer textbook, to the declaration of every state constitution and the declaration of the United States Supreme Courts Trinity decision of 1892, America cries out that its traditions have resulted from an abiding faith in the God of the Holy Bible. Accomplished historian, broadcast producer, and author Dr. Jerry Newcombe demonstrates the unmatched contributions of our Christian heritage to American liberty and prosperity. Likewise, Dr. Newcombe candidly and sensitively treats the very real issues of slavery and treatment of the American Indian. With its extensive documentation, The Book that Made America will soon become the standard bulwark defense of the much maligned but thoroughly true contention that America and its blessings result directly from the centrality of the Bible in our history. Dr. Newcombe has published twenty one books, including fourteen with well-known pastor Dr. D. James Kennedy.
Wonderful and Thought Provoking

This was a fascinating and thought provoking read - something that I really felt that I should have been siting with a highlighter and taking notes for a class rather than reading for simple pleasure. And I don't mean that it was a chore, I mean that there was so much good stuff in there to read that I know I'll never remember all of it. I'll definitely be re-reading this before long.
This book takes you through the history of America from the first settlers to the founding fathers and into today looking at the impact that Christianity in general and the Bible in particular has had on how our nation has been shaped. It ends by looking at where we are today and how we are trying, apparently with every fiber of our being, to scoot away from any Biblical influence and how that is already destroying who and what we, as a nation, are.
I highly recommend this to anyone who's even curious about the Christian history of America.

Jerry Newcomb in The book That Made American Great: How The Bible Formed Our Nation, traces the greatness of America through the direct influence of scripture on its history. He documents with great precision that the Bible was the source which inspired the founding principles of the United States. Why is America great? The founders built the country upon the ground of the Word of God. This new work refutes the present administration's claim that America is not a Christian nation as he opens the readers eyes to the history and phenomenon of the most powerful nation in the annals of mankind.

did not know that in 1983 President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation stating "....in recognition of the contribution of the Bible on our Repulic and our people do hearby proclaim 1983 the Year of the Bible in the United States. I encourage all citizens, each in his or her own way, to re-examine and rediscover its priceless and timeless message."
This interesting and highly christian statement was somehow shuffled away in the teaching of Ronald Reagan that I received in school. Somehow this information is still lost in the public school rooms - forgotten by those old enough to remember it.
I learned so much while reading this book. What a treasure of information! I closed this book more committed to my home school effort with my children. I was also more confident in the curriculum we had chosen to use: McGuffey Primers and the New England Primer (used for recitation and memorization), Rays Arithmetic, and the 1823 Websters that uses ample scripture in word... read more
