I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It's a scholarly work, yet is easy to read by nonexperts. The author was careful not to choose sides between Christianity and Islam, and never questioned the truth or validity of either. Christians who are unfamiliar with Islam will be surprised to find that many of their beliefs about Jesus and his life are also in the Koran, the sacred book of Islam. Despite the fact that Christianity and Islam believe in different paths to God, and often deny the legitimacy of the other, I believe we can still live together in peace and respect, and this book is an important step in this direction.
Jesus One Man, Two Faiths shows common ground between Christians and Muslims, and opens the eyes of the reader to the many similarities shared by the two religions with Jesus being the focal point of the dialogue. Whether you are a Christian, Muslim, or one still searching, this book descriptively and eloquently clears confusion and answers tough questions. Well researched and with a personal background in the field, Messier brings a fresh perspective as he connects the puzzle pieces together to show his reader that Jesus has a major role in both religions, and that is something we should embrace and share with each other.
Ron Messier's book, "Jesus: One Man, Two Faiths: A dialogue between Christians and Muslims" offers a path to peace between two spiritual traditions too often fraught with misunderstanding and violence. Messier models interfaith dialogue as he charts the similarities and differences between the stories and understandings of Jesus in both traditions. He raises deep theological questions and works to unravel spiritual mysteries, yet he never moralizes. An exemplary teacher, Messier challenges the reader to think deeply and reach individual conclusions. His data is presented in a clear, well organized and documented fashion; his writing style is accessible. This lovely book models a way of thinking and behaving that is a path to peace in our diverse global culture. To quote Rabbi Rami Shapiro on the book's back jacket, "Read, share and talk about this book." Jesus: One Man, Two Faiths: A Dialogue between Christians... read more
