AR Primer

By Comrade Mike - December 13, 2011This book is exactly what the title suggests it is -- a look at the three major AR browser platforms for smartphones. It has helped me get a feel for what it is like to develop content for each. The problem is the book's shelf life. It is already out of date in that Wikitude has launched the ARchitect kit. This means not only that one of the three browsers covered now has a significantly different set of tools than it previously did but that the other two browsers are as meaningfully contrasted against Wikitude. It won't be surprising to see a lot more rapid change in which platform tools and capabilities either. I'm not sure that the book format is really well suited for covering subjects that are evolving rapidly.
