If you're looking for a more comprehensive reference guide for your Nikon D5000, this book is the one to buy. At 398 pages, it has way more information than you'll find in the skimpy manual Nikon packs with the camera, and the explanations are a lot easier to understand, as well.

David Busch's Nikon D5000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography is simply the best way to learn how to use each and every feature of your new camera, while mastering every aspect of digital photography. It's divided into two parts. The first 160 pages are an introduction to the Nikon D5000 and its operation. Large color photos show each control and explain how to use it, unlike the Nikon manual, which directs you to multiple locations. PHOTOSHOP WOW BOOK...

I have been to sooo many on-site Tutorials,etc. I won't name them, but this Book is the best for information on the D5000 I have seen. Sooo much better than the little book w/ camera, which only touches some of the aspects of the camera for someone who knows something! This book has opened my eyes to what my camera can do, what I need, and has also giving me some inspiration to what I can do with this camara and sooo much more! If you have purchased the Nikon D5000, this is a must purchase! This book explains everything in depth with easy wording, even for the unknowledgeable photographer...ENJOY!!!

Great Book for Beginners

I bought this book in conjunction with my Nikon d5000 purchase (duh) as I'm new to the dSLR world (coming from the point-and-shoot world) and I wanted a book to not only explain the camera but also all the jargon associated with real cameras. This book does that and more.

Tons of information can be found throughout. The author also goes into some explicit details about all the accessories and lenses you can get for the camera, which was a big help.

If the book has any downsides, I would say it can be a bit wordy at times. For example, when the author tries to explain a menu, the instructions on how to get to that menu are often buried in long paragraphs, making it hard to reference back or follow along without losing your place. This is one area where I think the camera's manual is better, since it has concise steps/instructions on how to get to various menus versus the author's preference of using multitudes of sentences to convey the same message... read more
