Would not buy again
By Drewbacca the Bookiee - December 8, 2007Pictures are not helpful, layout is in need of organization/editing.
I can never find vital information such as torque specs.
The book is not thorough and when there is no easy answer Chilton will just ignore the problem all together i.e. The jacking points on a 4th gen (95-99) are not shown and with good reason, there are no rear jack points (you have to use the side rail [emergency jack points] due to the design of the trailing arm) otherwise you just compress the suspension but don't lift the car.
So far Chiltons has NOT BEEN helpful for the following projects:
Spring and Strut replacement, Inner/outer tie rod replacement, fuel filter replacement, sparkplug replacement.
Chiltons will get you going if your completely lost but save your money and take advantage of diy writeups on the internet.
Haynes is the better choice, but that is not saying much.
Do a search online and find a free pdf of the actual factory manual.

Lot of good information, but, some key things missing and some issues...

- Not very useful as a trouble shooting guide because of the way the book is structured
- I needed more info on the electricals
- Could add a chapter on installing additional electronic/electrical gadgets to the car
- Covered range (1993 to 2004) gives a feel of a generic book
Limited Reliance - For Certain Projects
By Brian - March 22, 2012Do not use this book exclusively for replacing the power steering pump. You are working in a very tight, mostly blind, awkward location with the engine still on the car. Does not provide enough detail for: order of operations, bolt location and arrangements, reccomended tools, angles/approaches to remove/install the pump in such a tight location, very difficult to access bolts. It would have been useful to say you might need extra long wrenches, you will need universal/wobble sockets and socket entensions, pickle fork, flex head wrenchs, lomg socket sizes, no pulley puller is require use an air ratchet, use a dead blow gently for re-installation, the bushings may come out and make re-installation difficult, 4" tensioner bolt is likely to break due to rust and length of bolt,no reference to other pages with diagrams of belt replacement that can be useful ...and the list goes on.
