Weekend Warrior; guide to success
By Stephen Vines - July 9, 2011I'm a weekend/shade tree mechanic. I'm far from an expert, however do most of my own vehicle maintenance and repairs when I have the time. I always buy a Hayes manual with each vehicle I buy, because these books are really helpful. They come with a nice conversion chart and generic trouble shooting guide for the novice. The first chapter give a nice list of routine maintenance list, also with all the product information(oil weight, spark plug part numbers, various fluid types, torque specifications, etc) The book will show you everything from changing your oil to replacing the camshaft. Excellent book for beginners, offers much more helpful information than the owner's manual that came inside the glovebox. While the books offers a lot of details, it falls short in some areas, such as details on the electrical system. For the experienced mechanic, it may not offer a lot of help, but for the beginners, it's a must have.
