Embedded Design Using Programmable Gate Arrays is an extremely practical learn-by-doing book. If you are a hands-on embedded engineering practitioner (or want to be) this book is for you, especially if you need to use Verilog with FPGA Xilinx hardware. It is also useful as an educational lab manual, with which I would probably pair one of Michael Cilletti's Verilog books for the course material.
Chapter 1's C language to Verilog procedure is a tool that you can add directly to your toolbox. This C2Verilog procedure is the first of many thrusts into behavioral synthesis. Chapter 1 also has a decent introduction to Verilog, making this book a standalone volume for electrical engineers and computer scientists with a background in digital design and C language embedded systems.

I buy this book because because i hahe the spartan3e starter board and this seems to be the best book with example code and the only source with templates i know where real time DSP with A/D and D/A is possible.
This book is excellent to give detail operations of the Spartan 3E board, especially the control of ADC and DAC. The Digital filters examples are great too since they use the special design controller. The web support for all the files are there.
