There are several books on SEM, many of them dedicate just one or two chapters to Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), this book focus 100% on CFA, from the very basics, to the more advanced applications such as Multi groups CFA. I've found the book very helpful, it is sometimes more helpful, than the software's manual itself (e.g. EQS). Each section provides specific examples for the most known software packages (i.e. LISREL, Amos, MPLUS, EQS).
At last an unabridged book really dedicated to Confirmatory Factor Analysis with hands-on approach on how to use the most popular sotfwares. After a brief review of Exploratory Factor Analysis, is goes into every detail of CFA with examples that help. After having bought 3 other books, I finally got this one, the right one.
This book was a lifesaver while writing my dissertation, and it continues to be an essential resource as I expand my analyses and plan future studies. I had taken a course on latent variable analysis, but it wasn't until I read this book that I really understood how confirmatory factor analysis worked, how to figure out which measurement model is best, and how to talk about what I had done in a clear and correct way. I felt like an expert in CFA after reading this book and using it to pattern my own analysis. It maps out all the steps and provides excellent code examples for a wide range of programs (with more focus on mplus, which is what I was using). I recommend this book to everyone I know who might possibly do CFA or structural equation modeling someday.
If Dr. Brown wanted to write books on any other latent variable analyses, I would buy them in an instant.
