The Emperor Has No Clothes: Teaching About Race And Racism To People Who Don't Want To Know (PB) (Educational Leadership for Social Justice)

Customer Reviews:

Imperative resource for educating White folks

By White colonial Canadian - March 30, 2012

Tema Okun's book came to me when I was feeling angry, frustrated and overwhelmed by the resistance of non-Aboriginal people who were deflecting the horrific realities of present day impacts of Canada's colonial history on Indigenous people. This book provides concrete examples to help White people to begin to consider and to explore the topic of White privilege and unearned advantages that we experience on a daily basis. Okun does a wonderful job of explaining the ideologies and systems that have created and
maintain the status quo of inequities in North America.
"Fear is what we feel, denial is what we do and defensiveness is how we do it (p.34)Highly recommended.
