Electromagnetic Imaging in Science and Medicine: With Wavelet Applications

This short monograph provides a clear and simple introduction to imaging techniques, with special reference to inverse synthetic aperture radar. It also introduces the use of wavelets for detection of any abnormalities in the typical electromagnetic signals encountered in biomedical diagnosis and in radar returns. The use of discrete wavelet transforms to compress images is also described. Listings of tested C-language and MATLAB(tm) software are provided for each one of these applications. Despite its brevity, the book should enable readers to understand and write technical programs for: 1) reconstructing images using continuous wave signals
2) manipulating two-dimensional images to study both the one-dimensional and two-dimensional profiles of the image
3) designing mother wavelets
4) continuous and discrete wavelet transforms of images using the MATLAB(TM) wavelet toolbox
5) detecting abnormalities in return signals from phase of frequency shifts
6) compressing images using wavelet transforms
The appendices include a listing of MATLAB(tm) programs, as well as routines for basic image processing of ISAR images.
