In How to Build Max-Performance Chevy Big-Blocks on a Budget, master engine builder and veteran author David Vizard imparts his 50 years of engine building experience and unique insight, so the reader can invest wisely and build a maximum-performance Chevy big-block. Like Vizard s top-selling book How to Build Max-Performance Chevy Small-Blocks on a Budget, readers are shown how to get the optimal machining performed, select the ideal parts, and assemble the strongest engine package for a budget of $1,900 to $15,000. This book offers a practical, methodical, and revealing approach for disassembly, machining, preparation, modification, and assembly of a big-block Chevy.
Vizard thoroughly explains how to obtain maximum performance on a budget and includes eight affordable and powerful engine builds in every price range. Any enthusiast with a big-block Chevy can benefit greatly from the experience and knowledge that best-selling author Vizard provides, making this book a welcome addition to any Chevy enthusiast s library.
As someone who earns their living from building performance enhanced big block Chevy engines for a discerning marine clientele, I was delighted to get my hands on David Vizard's latest big block performance book. Over the years I have come to not just expect a professionalism second to none in his writing, but actually take it for granted, and once again, as so often in the past, I was not disappointed, as it exceeded what even I have come to expect from him. David Vizard has a way, just when you think you have read it all, and hopefully learnt most of it, producing a book that pushes the boundaries past anything currently available out there. It seems he really can "think outside the box". Also I believe the unique reason that he is held in such high esteem by so many people in the industry is that you can have confidence in the fact that there is no untested theory in his books. He has built, tried and tested for himself everything he writes about. The cam selection charts in this... read more
As I anticipated, Max-Performance Chevy Big-Blocks on a Budget by David Vizard is superb. If you have read anything else by Vizard, you would expect nothing less, but I was a little apprehensive because the other titles that I have read by Vizard are general performance, while this covers just one engine. I was concerned that this book might end up being "How to Build Horsepower" with pictures and dynos of just Big Chevies. Just three pages in, I knew that would not be the case. This book is simply sensational.
The level of specificity is absolutely stunning. This book should be a guide to all other authors who intend to write books on a particular engine. For example, Vizard details in both words and pictures casting lumps that impede airflow. He gives precise measurements for critical tolerances such as minimum allowable cylinder wall thickness. Unlike most books which give generalities such as most blocks being capable of a .030" overbore, Vizard says sonic check the... read more
