I've read a number of books geared towards the expecting or new father and have found this one to be the most enjoyable. Friedman captures the daily trials and tribulations with a wry sense of humor and touching sentiment. The book flows nicely, chronologically from late pregnancy though his daughter's first year and covers the major topics of early parenthood with helpful and insightful advice along the way. Not dry or patronizing like some advice-books, "Nipple Confusion..." made me laugh outloud and would certainly bring comfort to the expecting father who may otherwise feel alone or even petrified about the thought of a new baby in his life.
Do I have children of my own? No. Would I recommend "Nipple Confusion" to other people who don't have children? Definitely.
When I first came across this book, I immediately thought of my friends who had recently become fathers. I thought it would be fun to send them a book particularly geared towards their experience. Then, when the book arrived, I started to read it and found that I couldn't put it down.
The author uses the perfect balance of humor and unpretentious insight to show his readers the joys and pitfalls of parenting. The book is written as a journal account of the author's experiences, then he throws in very useful tips at the end of each chapter. Some of those tips range from picking up the best breast pump to looting all the tissue boxes from your hospital room to just hugging your mother (my personal favorite). On one page, I'll be laughing hysterically about a diaper-change-gone-wrong incident, and on the next page I'll be in tears over... read more
"Nipple Confusion" provides a humorous insight into the challenging and rewarding experiences of fatherhood. The shelves of bookstores are filled with guides focused on the first year for both the child and the mother, but little attention is paid to the adjustments of the father. Mr. Friedman's lighthearted approach to the joys of parenting serves as a preview for both men and women to life after delivery and offers encouragement to those filled with insecurities about their new roles. This book is a must for people expecting, raising or contemplating a family.
