I had been to Bali before and this book was an excellent way to get reacquainted. I read it at home, and then again--chapter by chapter-- with my 18-year-old daughter while we were on the island. I loved this most interesting book, a must read for all Bali lovers. I have been to Bali many times and each trip I learn more and more. This book covers all facets of Bali Life their customs and beliefs it covers from the Dutch colonialism up to present times. I liked the pen and ink drawings too
My husband and I both read this book. As a frequent visitor to Bali we found this very interesting. It has helped us to understand the culture of the Balinese and their whole meaning of life. We have many friends there and truly appreciate all they have shared with us about family, customs, religion, cuisine etc. They are warm and welcoming and very friendly. When you visit, take the time to immerse yourself in their everyday life and culture. We loved the book.
