YOUR GUIDE TO RECYCLING, REUSE AND PROPER DISPOSAL OF STUFF 2 April 22, 2010 is Earth Day. It’s a day when we become conscious about how our everyday living activities impact the world. We will attend community events which teach us about the importance of keeping our air, land and water clean. We will turn off lights, adjust thermostats, catch a ride on MATA, or use a little less water. We might even dust off the recycling bin, fill it with paper and plastics, and place it curbside for a once a year pickup. But, the next day, it’s business as usual for most people… This year can be different. It can be the start of observing Earth Day everyday. This Guide to Recycling, Reuse and Proper Disposal of Stuff can be used everyday. We can reduce energy, divert waste from the landfill and help someone by finding responsible places for old items that are no longer wanted or needed. How to use the Guide Items are listed in alphabetical order. Contact information and special notes are provided for quick reference. If an item is not listed, most likely it can be recycled, reused or properly disposed of via your favorite charity, City’s curb side recycling program or the Shelby County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility. Contact each entity before assuming that the item is acceptable. If you have a favorite place where you take items to be recycled, reused, or properly disposed of, and you want to share with other MLGW employees, email wiseuse@mlgw.org with the information. Thanks! Use both sides of the paper when printing this guide. Central Support Services wiseuse@mlgw.org 3 plastic bag is forever in the landfill. Reuse, and then recycle.
