In all districts of Palestine, the Palestinians owned the majority
of property as shown in orange in the map. Total Jewish

ownership did not exceed 6% of the total area of Palestine in
all the districts of Palestine in 1947.

In September , 1948 all the 750,000 evicted Palestinians
c
were not allowed to return as per UN resolution 194 and
instead were declared absentees . Their property was
h
placed under the custody of the so-called “Custodian of
absentee property”. In 1950, the Jewish state passed the
“absentee Law” which allowed the custodian to sell or lease
this property to Jews, thus carrying out one of the greatest
theft of property of the 20th Century.
Noted author Moshe Smilanski wrote in Ha’aretz on

26/7/1949 “Towns, villages and agriculture property were
robbed without shame and lawless individuals from the

masses as well as the intelligentsia enriched themselves from
occupied property”

Early in the morning of Friday April 9, 1948,
Jewish terrorists of the Irgun headed by

Menachem Begin attacked Deir Yassin, a village

of about 900 Palestinian residents. By noon
over 120 Palestinians, half of them women

and children were murdered. This masssacre
stands as the starkest early warning of a
calculated depopulation of over 400 villages
and the expulsion of 700,000 Palestinians to
make room for the Jews.
