National Defence Academy (NDA) is a Joint training centre for training candidates of Army,
Navy and the Air force. Combined Defence Services Examination is conducted for
candidates willing to work for the Indian Military Services. The entrance examinations for
both the academies are conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Before
knowing how to prepare for CDS and NDA the requirements should be considered.
Candidates aspiring for the NDA entrance should complete their HSC examinations i.e. they
should complete 10+2 or 161/2 to 19 years, whereas aspiring candidates for the CDS
entrance should lie in the age group of 19 - 25 years.
Candidates from any stream are eligible for CDS but entry into Air Force and Navy requires
candidates from Science stream so that they have studied Physics and Maths. NDA takes
candidates from all the streams namely arts, science and commerce.
How to prepare for CDS and NDA:
The pattern for these exams is objective type. They also have negative marking. Getting a
grip on Maths and English is the first step as these are the most important subjects. You
should also learn to manage time as speed is the factor where candidates face trouble. The
time allotted to solve one question is approximately 1min. How to prepare for CDS and NDS
can only be known by solving `n' number of sample papers and preparing with their aid.
Focusing on basic concepts will help you know how to prepare for CDS and NDA. Your
understanding should be clear. Cramming things up won't help. Solving multiple question
papers will lead to better time management and easy approach to similar and likely
questions.
Previous papers should be observed this helps in understanding question pattern and marks
distribution according to chapters. Easier chapters should be handled first. The chapters
that you already know and understand well will not require much of an effort. Sometimes
it happens that the questions are very easy but just because you neglected some part you
may find yourself in a soup. Basics play a major role. While attempting the paper you
should keep your cool and go through the entire question paper first for a few minutes.
Then, without wasting much time start with simple questions and gradually go with other
