A Brief History of Albacon

This year marks the 14th Albacon, which
has been a fannish tradition of New
York's Capital District since October
1996. The first Albacon saw Nancy Kress,
Jill Bauman, and Shirley Maiewski as our
Guests of Honor, as well as the introduc-
tion of the Ice Cream Social and other
traditional Albacon events. The
, one of this year's special
guests, was chairman of the convention.

The next year saw the con move from
Albany to Schenectady, where it was held
until 2003. In 2004, it returned to

Over the years, Albacon's guests have
included Melissa Scott, Esther Friesner,
Hal Clement, Vincent DiFate, Glen
, Larry Niven, Tom Kidd, Mike
, Ann and Todd McCaffrey, and
Peter David, among others.
