Are there any?!

For the body of a human to work well, it should be fed a fantastic balance of vitamins and
nutrients. First of all, protein, carbohydrates and fats are three of the most typical
macronutrients that we should consume. These major food components provide us the energy
to perform our activities of daily living. Most of the vitamins cannot be manufactured in the
body and hence, have to be supplied externally via food. We also need several minerals for our
body to function smoothly. To clarify with the help of an example, calcium benefits us twofold:
it makes up and strengthens our bones and also helps our heart pump. Chlorine, mainly
derived from table salt, is used to synthesize - Hydrochloric acid, a stomach acid essential for
These minerals are either cations or anions and as such play a vital role in the maintenance of
your blood pH levels. The body is sensitive to alterations in the pH, hence taking the
recommended dietary allowances is necessary for one to thrive. Certain elements, called
micro nutrients, like iron, iodine, zinc are required in very small amounts but are essential
nonetheless. Failure to meet the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) for each nutrient, as
specified by the WHO, results in various systemic ailments and deficiency disorders. You can
get both macrominerals and trace elements from dietary sources. At times, you may also take
in dietary supplements if you feel that your food preference prevents you from getting the
recommended amounts.
Aside from consuming recommended amounts of essential nutrients, a healthy diet involves
drinking appropriate amounts of fluids. Eight glasses of water a day is a proverbial reminder
which we hear from doctors and elderly alike, and for good reason. Water is essential for all
the physiological or biochemical processes that takes place in your body. Also, it helps in
detoxification by eliminating toxic waste from the body. A lot of people seem to subscribe to
the notion that alkaline water is superior to other types of water preparations.
This trend is brought about by the heightened awareness of the public to alkaline water
benefits. The manufacturers of alkaline water additives claim that the regular consumption of
alkaline water protects against cancer and may even slow down aging. The mineral
constituents of the additive, chemically balance and neutralize other ions so as to maintain a
neutral pH. It is believed that certain food items, most notably carbonated drinks and junk

foods, can make the blood acidic. As said before, even the slightest change in the blood pH can
lead to disastrous consequences.
However, because of the lack of substantial evidence, many people remain skeptical of the
actual benefits of alkaline water. This public and scientific controversy is actually helping to
promote the product, many claim to have befitted from it. At the end of the day, the best
person to determine its efficacy is you.
