An overview on the game carrom
Not known much about its origin, Carrom is one such indoor family activity game
that is usually played by 2 to 4 players. It is played as singles match or doubles
match. The doubles match includes 2 players on behalf of a single team against
two other players as opponents representing a different team.
The game is played on a plain wood, bounded with wooden bumpers. The board
comes in different sizes for different age groups to play. Kids could play in a small
sized carom board.

This is how the game goes: primarily the aim of the player is to pocket all the
carrom coins before the opponent does; while pocketing the red coin, a follow of
either white or black should be pocketed together as it will give us extra points.
The red coin is considered to be the "queen" of the game.
There are totally 19 coins, 9 white 9 black and 1 red. The board has a rectangular
line around the perimeter that is actually the base line from which players strike
their shots. Without these main accessories, it is quite difficult to play the game.
Nevertheless there are other carrom board accessories which will help in the
durability of the board and it is the carrom powder.
It is mainly use to increase the smoothness of the board; conjointly it makes the
striker move smoother and faster, resulting in the toughness of the board. It is
considered that the white coin contains 2 points black 1 point and the red with 5
points. At the end of the game; teams with more points are declared as winners.
The game is not completed if the red coin is still left on the board. There are even
people who hit all the coins counting the red in the first shot this could happen only
through practice. Regular practice makes the game simpler and more attractive. It
is one such safe and attractive game to play. People even say playing this game
increases the concentration.

cover, carrom boric or starch powder, replacement mesh, score counter etc.
Replacement mesh is to collect the coins underside the four holes of the board.
The rules of the game may subject to change when it is played in the competition.
The game can be played by one team taking the black coins and the other
occupying with white coins. The other way round is that people with maximum
points at the end are declared as the winners.
It is said that this game is similar to billiards in certain aspects. The pieces must
have a diameter of no more than 3.18 cm and no less than 3.02 cm. The pieces
must be at least 7 mm and at most 9 mm thick. The pieces have a plain, rounded
The mass of the pieces is within 5 g and 5.5 g. Before starting each match, an
umpire hides one black and one white carrom in his hands. The players must guess
which color carrom are being held in each hand. The player who guesses correctly
wins the toss.
