In 1911 Hiram Bingham associated with Yale university rediscovered ancient Machu Picchu buried
under four hundreds of years of lush vegetation. Machu Picchu is situated at nearly 8,000 feet high in
the Andes mountains beyond Cuzco, Peru and just over the town Aguas Calientes. Machu Picchu is
full of mystery because no one understands exactly how it was built or even why.
Scholars claim that Machu Picchu had been built around the year 1450 AD. The style of building
found at Machu Picchu within Peru shows it being constructed in the "late Imperial Inca" period ,
during the reign of Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui (or Pachacutec). According to some theories, Machu
Picchu existed as an admin center associated with control for conquered areas and as a military
stronghold. Some believe that ancient Machu Picchu was a ceremonial center , in the heart of high
spiritual and earthly energy. The exact reason for ancient Machu Picchu is open to discussion.
Machu Picchu is an architectural marvel. There is no better example of successful ancient civil
architectural than Machu Picchu. The huge stones that make up the site are perfectly reduce and
match together remarkably well. This particular superb architectural is defiantly resistant to
earthquakes. The builders of Machu Picchu are considered to be among the best stonemasters in
history. They not just used dried out stone building techniques for the structures, however for
agricultural balconies as well. They did so with large gemstones over tough , mountainous landscape
and without the use of wheel technologies.
Machu Picchu's forehead of the sun was dedicated to the Sun lord Inti and it is the site's finest
