Guy Wilson Well if your going to be insulting, let's take the gloves off. Are you an apologist for the

terrorist attack of 9/11? Do you think the United States deserved such an attack? You see to imply

you are.
I say the attack of 9/11 was not a response to any Imperialistic dimension or the "injustice" of
western policy. It would be nosense and facile of you to suggest that. Have you not read the
manifestos of those suicide bombers?
Al'Quaida's attack on Western civil society was not for the things about it that make one queasy, or
make one critical or even hostile. It was an attack by Islamo-facists on a permissive liberal
democracy, an attack the spirit of scientific inquiry, religious and cultural pluralism and the
emancipation of women.

Suffice to say you should look into the issue more before you do that or you'll look like an idiot.

Perry Clark p.s. not apologising for it, or justifying the attacks as you are justifying for the war. i'm
just highlighting the justifications the terrorists have used: i deplore any kind of violent action/war..
but everything ive said above e.g. reasons why people are pissed off - i stand behind. more jaw, less
war is what i say. and in reply to the above statement.. for someone that studies politics at uea im a
bit shocked of your ignorance to be honest

Guy Wilson Crikey, how ridiculous you are. The justifications that Al'Quada terrorists used for 9/11
are none of those that you have given. They are based on religious extremism. It is not Islamophobic
to oppose those who wish to restore the old Muslim Empire of the Caliphate and put all unbelievers
to death.
Since the bungled foreign policy mistakes made by the US in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts there
is reason for extensive criticism and resentment from the Muslim World, and everywhere else. But as
you shall have to acknowledge the attack of 9/11 occured before both the invasion of Iraq and
Afghanistan.

Perry Clark ok i may have got a bit muddled with what i was trying to say in that some of the points
i highlighted in my first post being attributable to the justifications of al qaida et al.. your right to
some degree on them justifying it based on 'religious extremism'.. its not quite the full picture of
what actually causes the justification.. indeed it would be quite narrow minded/ignorant to believe
that is solely the case and that the US has done absolutely nothing wrong to provoke any attack.but i
digress....
justifications justifications.. deontological or consequentialist. so you 'pro-war Guy'(s) are taking the
side of the consequentalist: "its ok to commit acts of war as long as those acts are promised to
produce the best results in terms of a relevant end" e.g. the electrocution of abu graib prisoners
genitalia to 'extract information'.. on the other hand, bin ladens justification, which is religious based
morality, or deontological, in which actions are judged only by accordance with preordained sets of
moral rules/codes.. (though its important to note that the religious extremism in islam is no
different to the manipulation of religious texts by evangelist christians, they just took the violence
side to a whole new level).. but such a justificatory based on religious texts used by bin laden etc
would be that of the location of U.S. airbases in Saudi Arabia - in forbidding the occupation of holy
sites (such as S A) by 'outsiders'... which brings me onto your second point.. of course the attack of
9/11 occurred before Iraq and Afghanistan, but history didn't begin on september the 11th 2001.
and the role the western governments have played in the Middle East before this hegemonist
invasion by proxy has undeniably caused disdain amongst a large number of people, in their
propping up of corrupt kings and puppet presidents who we have seen the fall of some in the arab
spring) throughout the decades who have undertaken neoliberal policy to make mo money and quell
dissent by guaranteeing support of liberal democracies e.g. the U.S, not to mention the gulf war and
supplying of arms.
didn't want it to come to this on bloody facebook.. i hope we can just agree to disagree, and maybe
take it to private messages and after exams :)

Perry Clark also I myself am not trying to justify anyones actions.. just trying to form an
understanding of why people are violent and the reasons behind it.. on both sides.
