Brandon, FL (Law Firm Newswire) November 18, 2011 - National Adoption Day is Nov. 19. This is a day to
recognize and applaud the efforts of individuals and couples who decide to adopt a child and give them the
chance to live in a safe, permanent, and caring home environment. According to the Dave Thomas Foundation
for Adoption, an estimated 107,000 children are in foster care and waiting to be adopted. Statistics show that
many live with about three different caregivers throughout their time in the foster care system and oftentimes
have no family support system to give them a good foundation for the future.
"Besides individuals who want to adopt, there are many families where a stepparent or grandparent
wants to adopt a child they have helped raise," said Brandon family law attorney Joshua Law, of Osenton Law

child's development. All these types of adoptive parents should be applauded for their efforts."
No matter what type of person adopts the child, there are many legal steps to accomplish this goal. The adoptive
family will need to be interviewed and oftentimes a social worker or custody evaluator will want to meet the
prospective parents in their home to see them interacting. The family law courts want to ensure the financial
stability of the individuals as well their health status to make sure the child's well-being will be upheld.
In Tampa Bay, a two-day celebration will occur on Nov. 18 and 19. The Friday morning event will include a
celebration at the George E. Edgecomb Courthouse in Tampa where 35 children and teens will have their
adoptions finalized by four judges. Nationwide, more than 32 percent of all adopted children are adopted by
relatives who seek assistance from reputable agencies and experienced family law attorneys to help with all the
steps before, during, and after the adoption process.
