Browser Settings

Introduction
When using the my.maricopa.edu link to the new Student Information System (SIS) self-service features, adjustments to
computer browser settings are necessary. Without adjusting the browser, the Help window within the Student Center
component, and the calendar feature within the Faculty Center component; may not open. The following instructions are
designed to assist end-users with the required browser adjustments.

Browser Settings
Internet Explorer (IE)
Adjustments to the following browser settings are required for optimal utilization: Trusted sites; Downloads from
my.maricopa.edu; Enable Java Scripts; Allow Pop-Ups from my.maricopa.edu; and Clear the Cache. The il ustrations
and steps outlined below are representative of Internet Explorer, version 6 (IE6).

Identify Browser Version - To identify the Internet Explorer version currently installed on your computer, perform
the following:

Open Internet Explorer
Step 2.0 Click
Help
Step 3.0 Click
About Internet Explorer

Adjust Browser Settings

Step 1.0
Open the Internet Explorer browser
Step 1.1
Click on the Tools menu
Step 1.2
Click Internet Options




The next il ustration depicts Web content zones. The security level for each content zone [Internet (Globe Icon); Local
Intranet (Computer and globe icon); Trusted Sites (Checkmark in green circle icon); and Restricted Sites (Minus sign in
red circle icon)] must be reset from the default. Note: If the zone is set to its default, the button labeled “sites” will appear
grayed-out.

Step 2.0 Click
the Security tab
Step 2.1
Click on the zone icon you are resetting
Step 2.2
Click the Default Level button to reset the default



Step 3.0
Click on the Trusted Sites icon from the web content zone (checkmark in green circle icon)
Step 3.1
Click the Sites button
Step 3.2
Enter www.my.maricopa.edu into the Add this Web site to the zone field
Step 3.4
Click the Add button
Step 3.5
Uncheck the checkbox: Require server verification (https :) for all sites in this zone
Step 3.6 Click
OK

Click on the Trusted Sites web content zone (checkmark in green circle icon)
Step 4.1 Click
on
Custom Level button

Scroll through the list to Downloads
Step 4.3
Click Enable to set the prompt for Automatic Prompting
Step 4.4
Click Enable to set the prompt for File download
Step 4.5
Click Enable to set the prompt for Font download

Step 5.0
Scroll through the list to Scripting
Step 5.1
Click Enable to set the prompt for Active scripting
Step 5.2
Click Enable to set the prompt to Allow paste operations via script
Step 5.3
Click Enable to set the prompt for Scripting of Java applets
Step 5.4
Click OK


Step 6.0

Click on the Tools menu
Step 6.1
Click on Pop-up Blocker (If it’s grayed out, click on Turn on Pop-up Blocker first)


Step 6.2

Select Allow Pop-up Windows from my.maricopa.edu
Step 6.3
Enter www.maricopa.edu into the Address of Web site to al ow field
Step 6.4
Click the Add button
Step 6.5 Select
Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups from the Filter Level drop-down menu

Clearing the Cache
All web applications store copies of the pages you visit on your machine’s hard drive for quick retrieval. Any time you
change your browser settings, the cache should be cleared to retrieve the latest settings from the database.

Step 7.0
Click on the Tools menu
Step 7.1
Click Internet Options
Step 7.2 Select
the
General Tab
Step 7.3.0 For IE6 version browsers: Click on the Delete Files… button to clear the cache
Step 7.3.1 For IE7 version browsers: Click the Delete … button, then
Step 7.3.2 Click the Delete files… button
Step 7.4.0
For IE6 version browsers: Click on the Delete Cookies… button
(Note: This may change settings on other websites using cookies that remember who you are)
Step 7.4.1 For IE7 version browsers: Click on the Delete cookies… button
(Note: This may change settings on other websites using cookies that remember who you are)
Step 7.5.0 For IE6 version browsers: Click on the Clear History button
Step 7.5.1 For IE7 version browsers: Click on the Delete history button
Step 7.5.2 Click OK

Step 8.0
Close Internet Explorer and any other open applications
Step 8.1 Restart the computer. Contact the Help Desk for more help.

Firefox
Adjustments to the following browser settings are required for optimal utilization: Downloads from my.maricopa.edu;
Enable Java Scripts; Allow Pop-Ups from my.maricopa.edu; and Clear the Cache.

Open the Firefox browser
Step 2.0
Click on the Tools menu
Step 3.0
Click on Options



Step 4.0
Verify the Download section is set to download files where you want them

Click on the Content section
Step 5.1
Ensure the Block pop-up windows is checked
Step 5.2
Click on the Exceptions… button for the pop-up blocker



Step 6.0
Enter www.my.maricopa in the Address of web site: field
Step 6.1
Click Allow
Step 6.2 Click
Close
Step 6.3 Click
OK

Step 8.0 Clear
your
Cache
Step 8.1
Click on the Tools menu
Step 8.2
Click on Clear Private Data…



Step 8.3
Select the desired settings
Step 8.4
Click Clear Private Data now

Step 9.0 Delete
Cache
Note: Deleting the cache removes temporary files stored on your PC that will be refreshed from my.maricopa.edu.

Step 10.0 Close the browser and any other open applications
Step 10.1 Restart the computer

Safari
Adjustments to the following browser settings are required for optimal utilization: Downloads from my.maricopa.edu; Allow
Pop-Ups from my.maricopa.edu; Enable Java Scripts; and Clear the Cache.

Step 1.0
Open the Safari browser
Step 2.0 Click
Safari on the Apple menu tab
Step 3.0
Click Preferences



Step 4.0
Verify the Download section is set to download files where you want them

Ensure the Block pop-up windows is not checked

Note: Safari is only able to globally block or allow pop-ups. You may want to only al ow pop-ups when you are working in
my.maricopa.edu, and block pop-ups when finished.
