American C. Wonder and Jeeves
are breaking new ground in retail
In October 2011 C. Wonder opened the electric green doors of its first
flagship store in New York City's trendy SoHo district. The chain sells
apparel, accessories and home decor, and its wares all put a colorful
twist on clean modern design. Or as they describe themselves: "C.
Wonder is a shopping destination that transports women into a world
of luxury and surprises."
The store's decor is attractive and tasteful, and it is manufactured in China
just like all of the sweaters, necklaces and furniture. The entire flagship store
was actual y constructed in Shanghai, and then broken down and shipped to
the other side of the Atlantic. This approach is in line with the total concept
behind C. Wonder - breaking new ground in retail and making the entire chain,
from garments to stores to shopping bags, just a bit more cutting edge. This
is where Jeeves comes into the picture.
Using Jeeves' ERP and advanced RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) man-
agement 9Kings, the company behind the trademark C. Wonder, has built an IT
support system that centers on the customer and enhances the retail experience.
Chips track every product
A small RFID chip is the key to the outstanding customer experience at C.
Wonder. This chip makes it possible to track each product as it moves from
storage out into the store, and even when the customer takes it to the fitting
room or to pay for it. By fol owing the movement patterns of the products the
staff can learn more about how effective their signage has been and then
place the products in just the right locations in the store. This is possible
thanks to a Jeeves ERP system solution.
C. Wonder has chosen to have plenty of space in the fitting rooms. You use a
small display to choose the music you want to listen to while trying on clothes.
Choose between rock, pop or classical. The next step is to create customized
instore TV where "smart shelves" read what you are trying on (from the chip)
and suggest suitable alternatives on screens in the fitting room.

"We've replaced our registers with iPods and
gotten closer to the customer in the store"
Ipods instead of registers
Traditional checkout registers are noticeably absent at C. Wonder. All pay-
ments are made using iPods, so that you can pay anywhere in the store.
"By using iPods instead of traditional registers, the staff can move around
the store freely and assist customers where they are. This is cal ed a "Mobile
Point of Sales" and in this case it has been deployed one hundred percent. Of
course we save on costs since we don't have to purchase regular registers,"
said Vice President & CTO Mattias Douhan, 9Kings/C. Wonder.
When the customer pays, a receipt is emailed to the customer, and sales asso-
ciates can answer questions about what's in stock directly from their iPods.
