Making a Career as a Professional Fashion Designer

If you have a love and passion for fashion, a career as a Fashion
Designer may be for you. But here's a word of warning: it's not for
the faint hearted!

Getting into the fashion industry can be quite difficult if you don't have
fashion illustration skills and knowledge of how the fashion industry
works.


Many fashion designers start with simple drawings on paper of clothes,
and it is important to progress from here, to designing full fashion
collections.

Each Fashion Collection or story should at least be 10-15 pieces. They
should all have a common theme, feel, story or colour palette.

The best way to start your career is by buying some Fashion Books to
educate your self. There are many great fashion books and ebooks out
there that can teach you how to draw the fashion figure, how to design
clothes, and how fashion gets from the drawing board to the retail

Secondly, try to learn from somebody already in the fashion industry.
This could be a friend, or even a mentor.

A Fashion Mentor will help guide you in the right drirection, and give
you the helpful contacts and tips that will help you get into the industry
faster.

If you are interested in starting your own Fashion Label or Fashion
Business, you will need to do some research into Business Plans.

Also a program that specifically teaches you Fashion Business skills
would be highly desirable as well.
