Chorus Boosters Scholarship
The scholarship purpose is to recognize the recipient’s contribution to the Midlothian High School
Choral Department. Further studies in music are not a requirement.
The scholarship is an award of the Chorus Boosters. The scholarship selection committee will be
comprised of members of Chorus Boosters and/or parents of former chorus members. Parents of applicants
are ineligible to serve on the selection committee. The chorus department staff may comment on
applicants, but has no voting privileges. In all cases, the decision of the committee is final.
The annual amount of the award and number of awards may differ based on the funds raised each
year generated by the Night of Stars fundraiser. The monetary amount and number of scholarships will be
at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee. No scholarship under $250 will be awarded.
In the event that the original winner doesn’t attend college, the moneys will be returned to the
Chorus Boosters and subsequently awarded to the “runner-up”. The winner will agree to these stipulations
by signing a statement upon receipt of check made out to the attending college.
The scholarship will be awarded to Midlothian High School Senior (s) enrolled in an accredited
college for the following summer or fall semester. The applicant must be enrolled in a chorus class and a
student in good standing. Applicants must submit this application, an essay, and references from 2 choral
peers and one non-music faculty member. Recommendations should be typed on separate sheets with the
name of applicant, name of reference, and address the following:
how long they have known the applicant
how they view the applicant’s contribution to the Choral Department and Midlothian High School
why they would recommend the applicant for the scholarship.
Applicant must submit all materials together and typed by April 28, 2011. No submissions after due
date will be accepted. Submit to Mrs. Graham in a sealed manila envelop with the applicants name on the
outside. Winner(s) will be announced at the Spring Concert and checks awarded Senior Night.
I, ____________________________________agree to the conditions stated above as an applicant and
prospective recipient of the Chorus Boosters Scholarship.
List chronologically, all of your choral experience during your four years of high school. Include
the classes (vocal group) you took, extracurricular choral activities (district choral festivals, musical
productions, etc.), and outside choral activities (church choir, performing groups, etc.)
Using one of the following quotes, write a short response on the impact your choral
experience will have on your future:
1. “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
2. “Life is like music, it must be composed by ear, feeling and instinct, not be rule. Nevertheless one
had better know the rules, for they sometimes guide in doubtful cases, though not often.”
3. "Music is edifying, for from time to time it sets the soul in operation."
