Celtic Fiddle Class Offered for Winter Term by Cascade School of Music in
Bend Oregon

for Winter Term 2011 taught by Roland White, Oregon State Senior Champion Fiddler", reports

(1888PressRelease) - Local Central Oregon Fiddler Roland White in cooperation with Cascade
School of Music in Bend Oregon will offer a Winter Term class on Celtic Fiddle. Registration

The class will focus on the intricate stylistic aspects of Irish fiddle technique. These include the
subtleties of left hand ornamentation and right hand bowing techniques that create the nuances in
the art of Irish Fiddle Playing. Students will be grouped by experience and playing levels to
accomplish learning the techniques used to create the grace notes in Irish music that are known
as cuts, rolls, turns, slurs, slides and bow triplets.

Tunes will be selected by the instructor and students will be taught to apply these techniques to
the tunes they already know or learn in class. The instructor will also include one on one time
with each student in the course of the class to improve the students tone, rhythm and bowing that
are essential to the Irish style of fiddle playing. Students are encouraged to bring a recording
device to assist them in the traditional art of learning the tunes by ear. Students should have some
basic fiddle playing experience.

Roland White, first heard fiddle music in 1976, by the Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers at a small
country grange hall in Mt. Hood Oregon and was instantly captivated by the tunes. Since that
time Roland has studied and learned hundreds of fiddle tunes including many from the Irish style
of fiddle playing . Over the years he has attended numerous fiddle workshops taught by such
masters of fiddling as Kevin Burke, Carol Anne Wheeler, Byron Berline, and Benny Thomasson.
Roland is the current Oregon State Senior Fiddle Champion and placed 10th in the Nation of the
Senior Division in the National Fiddle Contest this past June in Weiser Idaho.

Cascade School of Music is now in a new location in Bend Oregon. The building sits in the

middle of Pacific Park, a 3.5 acre site beautifully maintained by Bend Parks located at; 200 NW
Pacific Park Lane, on Portland Ave just West of Wall Street.
